What do 8-year-old girls do these days? Play with toys, watch nickelodeon, and enjoy the third grade? Nah… this 8-year-old is built different. Ruby Tucker is an amateur boxer and influencer that has taken social media by storm. Featured by the likes of ESPN, ABC, Steve Harvey, People Magazine and more, Team Ruby is a full-fledged story of inspiration.
Team Ruby is not only comprised of the boxing phenom (RubyTucker) but of her father, Kijuan Tucker, as well. Kijuan is Ruby’s trainer and coach. On social media, Kijuan goes on to write, “… I really enjoy the responsibility of raising a child and being as present as I possibly can.”; teaching us the importance of core values through family structure and sport. There is also a feeling of pride for dad watching his daughter learn the discipline of boxing because it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to be skilled in the sport.
When asked about boxing in an interview with Good Morning America, Ruby mentions, “It makes me feel happy, it makes me feel strong, it makes me feel talented, and it makes me feel awesome.” Instilling this type of confidence and self-defense capability in young girls is profound and very commendable. Ruby has been a model of effort and encouragement for other young athletes all over the country.
Soon, Ruby intends to release a children’s book called “The Girl who Fights” in addition to her continuous traveling across the country to participate in regional and national competition. Ruby has worked herself into position since she was 4 years old and has now been endorsed by boxing legend Laila Ali and current Olympian and Welter Weight World Champion Errol Spencer Jr.
